Established by Prof John Hartley in 1998, it houses a significant collection of twentieth century photojournalism, and is affiliated with the Wales Media Forum, established by PressWise patron Prof Ian Hargreaves in 1999 to further research links with the Welsh media industries. Also the base for Social Semiotics media journal edited by Terry Threadgold. The Centre aims, through its research, to contribute to the renewal of democratic practices, institutions and principles in the context of journalism, media and culture as they intersect regionally, nationally and globally. The Centre has worked closely with the PressWise RAM Project.
