PCC rejects complaint on Daily Express 'Bombers' headline

On the 27 July 2005, the Daily Express ran the front page headline 'Bombers are all spongeing asylum seekers' after the attempted London bombings of 21 July.

Julian Petley, former MediaWise trustee and co-chair of the Campaign for Press and Broadcasting Freedom, lodged a complaint about the headline with the Press Complaints Commission, along with Granville Williams and Barry White, also of CPBF. You can read their original letter here.

The PCC rejected the complaint on 15 November. Julian's article about the case appeared in the November-December 2005 Free Press and can be read here.

Roy Greenslade, media commentator, lecturer and a trustee of MediaWise, wrote about the story in his Telegraph column on 29 November.

The MediaWise Bulletin on the issue is here, and the RAM Bulletin article by Rich Cookson here.
