Founded in 1933, and with a Royal Charter and government funding, the BFI's role is to collect, preserve, store and exhibit films and to play a significant educational role in developing appreciation of films and film-making. It has a particular concern with access and diversity issues. Runs regional, national and international festivals, events and conferences, in which PressWise has taken part.

A membership organisation originally founded in 1931, the BKSTS aims to encourage, sustain, educate, train and represent all those involved in the business of providing moving images and associated sound in any form and through any media, and to promote excellence in all aspects of moving image and associated sound technology. Independent of all governments and commercial organisations. Holds meetings, presentations, seminars and international exhibitions and conferences, and organises training courses, lectures and workshops, special events, evening meetings. Keeps members up to date with changing technology and maintains close links with other similar organisations throughout the world. BKSTS publishes a journal Image Technology, a newsletter Images, and a quarterly supplement Cinema Technology.

A representative body promoting the production, study and use of film and related media in higher education and research. Founded in 1948, the Council receives core grant support from the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) of the Higher Education Funding Councils via the Open University. Currently employs around 17 staff and has an annual turnover of approximately £700,000. Runs conferences and publishes information and reports.

BECTU is the independent union for those working in broadcasting, film, theatre, entertainment, leisure, interactive media and allied areas who are primarily based in the United Kingdom. The union represents permanently employed, contract and freelance workers within these sectors.
Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC)

The BJTC has representatives from all sides of the radio and television industry and colleges which offer courses in broadcast journalism - including BBC, ITN, Channel 4, Bell College, Hamilton, Trinity and All Saints College, Leeds, University of Central England, Birmingham, and Bournemouth University. The Council's role is to advise and co-operate with colleges to ensure that industry standards of training are maintained. Publishes course guidelines and conducts Advisory Visits.
