Founded in 1951 to develop and accredit training for the UK newspaper industry; run jointly by newspaper proprietors, editors, journalists, academics and college lecturers and trades unions. Became a registered charity in 1993 and set up a trading company - NCTJ Training Limited - to offer basic journalism training through its colleges/universities and by distance learning.

Founded in 1907 and now one of the biggest journalists' unions in the world (34,000 members in UK and Ireland, writers and reporters, editors, sub-editors, photographers, illustrators, etc. working in broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, books, internet and public relations). Has had Code of Conduct since 1936, and an active Ethics Council, and a training programme (mostly vocational skills). Has backed the work of PressWise and its projects. Funded by members, with external grants to fund training programmes.

Founded in 1836, the Newspaper Society is the voice of the regional press. It represents and promotes the interests of over 1,300 regional and local, daily and weekly, paid-for and free titles.
