JOMEC has teaching interests in journalism, international media, media technologies, media development, film, radio, television, photojournalism, magazine journalism and public and media relations. It has three research groups: The Tom Hopkinson Centre for Media Research; Risk, Media and Communication Research Group; and Cultural Performance and Identity. The School also houses the Centre for Journalism Studies, founded in 1970.
