Complaining to media regulators

Each of the regulators has slightly different procedures. They will happily explain them. If you are hoping to make use of their services it helps to get things right from the start.

MediaWise can assist if you require help in presenting your case or assembling evidence to support your complaint.

If you have a complaint about a newspaper or magazine (including their websites), contact the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).

If you have a complaint about programmes on radio or television, contact Ofcom.

If you have a complaint about BBC programmes, contact BBC Complaints or Ofcom.

If you have a complaint about any advertisement, contact the Advertising Standards Authority.

If you have a complaint about the coverage of sexual issues in teenage magazines, contact the Teenage Magazine Arbitration Panel (TMAP).

Alternatively, you may wish to try the Information Commissioner for data protection and freedom of information advice.
